Hello friends!
We are going to have a really fun party decorating
cakes at Duff's Cake Mix in Old Town, and I am excited to see you all there.
This year, I am asking for no gifts. Instead, I would
love it if you make a contribution to one of the charities that I follow to
support marine animals, ocean health, address the plastic problem that hurts these
ecosystems, and fighting cruelty to animals. This year, I learned a lot about
the future of our planet and sustainability. Any amount helps these great
organizations and please don't feel obligated.
My parents will match 100% of these donations so we
can make double the impact!
Click on the links below to bring you to the donation site to the 5 charities I support. We are using the "Go Fund Me" platform to manage the charity donations and they add a "tip" by default to help fund their platform costs. Please feel free to select “Other” and zero (0) it.
Thank you for looking, and
hope to see you all at my party!
Love, Brooke
PACIFIC NORTHWEST
(PNW) PROTECTORS: this
nonprofit organization is trying to protect an animal of personal importance
to me. I love dolphins, in particular killer whales, which are actually
dolphins not whales! My family visited the San Juan Islands 2 summers ago and
witnessed a terrible tragedy of a death of a newborn killer whale. These Southern Resident Killer Whales are on the
verge of extinction. This species of salmon-eating orcas are
critically endangered under the Endangered Species Act. The cause is the
disappearing numbers of wild Chinook (king) salmon due to human causes
(rivers have been dammed where they spawn, ocean pollution, overfishing,
farmed salmon pens infecting wild chinook salmon). Pacific Northwest Chinook
salmon and these orcas are both threatened by our actions. PNW Protectors
helps recover this beloved population of orcas and native king salmon through
public awareness and education, campaigns to take down the dams along the
lower Snake Rivers in Oregon/Washington states. From March 1-22, PNW
Protectors are helping organize a march from Portland to Ice Harbor Dam to
put pressure on legislators and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to start
breaching the four lower Snake River dams in 2020. PNW Protectors is also
coming out with a documentary series called Coextinction: www.coextinctionfilm.com. https://www.gofundme.com/f/brooke-pnw-protectors |

PETA
(PEOPLE FOR THE ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS): my family has been following a vegetarian diet this
year and we are working towards converting to a plant-based diet. PETA is now educating people about plant-based
diets, since it has become increasingly clear that animal agriculture is the
biggest contributor to greenhouse gases. They also help end suffering and
save animals lives. They fight cruelty through education, investigations,
grassroots campaigns, rescues, and messages of compassion. https://www.gofundme.com/f/brooke-peta |

GYRES INSTITUTE: Husband and
wife co-founded this organization to fight the plastic pollution of our
oceans. In 2015, 5 Gyres successfully advocated for the ban of plastic
microbeads in skincare and cosmetic products in the U.S. Plastic in our
oceans is a real global health crisis and our recycling industry is broken.
It’s not correct to think that what we throw into our blue bins is being
recycled/repurposed. It does not. 99% of the plastic we throw into our
recycling bins is ends up in landfills. https://www.gofundme.com/f/brooke-5-gyres |

RIC
O’BARRY’S DOLPHIN PROJECT:
Ric O’Barry has worked on both sides of the captive
dolphin issue (first 10 years within the dolphin captivity industry, and for
the past 48, against it). He trained the dolphin who played Flipper. He
produced the Academy Award-winning documentary The Cove and the Animal Planet
TV series Blood Dolphins. Over the past 48 years he has rescued and
rehabilitated dolphins in many countries around the world. He is leading
voice in the fight to end brutal dolphin hunts in Japan, Solomon Island, Farae Islands and Indonesia, and on the lookout for
illegal captures for marine theme parks. https://www.gofundme.com/f/brooke-ric-o039barry039s-dolphin-project |

OCEAN CONSERVANCY: focuses on long-term solutions to protect our
oceans from overfishing, pollution, acidification, and protects marine
wildlife and coastal communities. For over 30 years, it has been hosting the
International Coastal Cleanup, which brings together millions of volunteers
all across the world to remove trash from beaches. https://www.gofundme.com/f/brooke-ocean-conservancy |
